Hamas rejects ‘foreign guardianship’ of Gaza ahead of UNSC vote

The UN Security Council is set to vote on a US resolution detailing the International Stabilisation Force outlined in Trump’s ceasefire.
A Hamas spokesman has told Al Jazeera that the group rejects the presence of foreign military personnel in Gaza, saying it would be exchanging Israeli occupation for “foreign guardianship”.
US-drafted Gaza resolution has backing of ‘a lot of people’: Analysis
A US-drafted resolution detailing the planned International Stabilisation force for Gaza has the backing of “a lot of people” in the region and further afield, says Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst.

But Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst, suggested that the proposal, which is due to be voted on later at the UN Security Council, will also cause some Palestinians and Israelis to “huff and puff”.

Bishara highlighted that the proposal makes the pathway to a viable Palestinian state “conditional” upon factors including redevelopment and political reform. It also gives no timeframe for it to happen, he added.

“That’s not going to be the liking of many Palestinians, who already think they have a state recognised by almost 150+ countries around the world.”
Palestinian flag raised for first time at Toronto City Hall in show of solidarity
The Palestinian flag has been raised outside Toronto City Hall for the first time, several months after Canada recognised the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly.

The flag raising came as a result of a petition by a civil society group called the International Center of Justice for Palestinians, who said it would be a “symbolic show of solidarity”, the AFP news agency reported.

Toronto’s municipal government confirmed that it had approved the request as a result of the Canadian government’s recognition “of the State of Palestine on September 21, 2025”.

The flag will be taken down late today, the city added.

Several attempts were made to stop the flag-raising from going ahead.

Toronto city council member James Pasternak urged the city to reverse what he called a “divisive and unjustified decision”, while B’nai Brith, a prominent Jewish advocacy group, warned that it would “inadvertently cause division and tension”.

AFP said there were isolated pro-Israeli protesters at the event in downtown Toronto. Police told the news agency that one person had been arrested for assault, but did not give further details.
Palestinian patients return to Gaza after over two years
The Palestinian Red Crescent says that it transported 76 patients from two hospitals, one in Israel and the other in occupied East Jerusalem, to Gaza via the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) border crossing.

The patients had traveled to the hospitals in prior to the October 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, and were stranded, unable to return to their homes in Gaza, for over two years.
‘Flying Palestinians to South Africa a desperate attempt to depopulate Gaza’
On Thursday morning, 153 Palestinians from Gaza – many without the required travel documents – landed in the South African city of Johannesburg.

It subsequently transpired that their charter flight had been organised by a group called Al-Majd Europe, with investigations alleging that the enterprise is linked to Israel’s Defence Ministry.

Speaking about the development, Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst, said it was “unsurprising” that a few hundred Palestinians had wanted to leave war-torn Gaza, given the level of destruction wrought there by the Israeli military over the past two years.

“What is surprising is the continued Israeli effort to push as many Palestinians as possible outside Gaza,” he said from Paris.

Bishara called it a “desperate attempt” to depopulate Gaza after Israel’s failure to do so during the war.

“The idea of pushing Palestinians into the Sinai has failed, the idea of getting [United States President] Trump on board into ethnically cleansing Gaza totally and sending them to African and Asian countries has also failed,” Bishara noted.
Hamas, other Palestinian factions reject Gaza stabilisation plan
Palestinian factions, including Hamas, are rejecting foreign military presence, international bases or external control of Gaza.

They say it’s a violation of their sovereignty. They also say they won’t disarm. The factions have condemned a US-drafted resolution that will be tabled at the UN Security Council later on Monday.

Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abou Azzoum is in Deir el-Balah, in central Gaza, with more on what Palestinian factions are saying, and the current dire humanitarian situation in the Strip.
What to expect from MBS-Trump meeting tomorrow
When Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also known as MBS, and US President Donald Trump sit down in the Oval Office on Tuesday, it’ll be the Saudi leader’s first visit in seven years to the White House.

Back in 2018, MBS was selling Americans his bold vision for a modern Saudi Arabia. Since then, the US-Saudi relationship has, at times, been strained, even tested. Still, the kingdom has transformed, in large part, through US investment.

Last May, as he did in his first term, Trump chose Saudi Arabia for his first foreign trip. He returned with $600bn in Saudi investment for US energy, tech and defence.

The crown prince hopes to deepen commercial and defence ties with his return to Washington, by finalising a US-Saudi Defense Pact, including the sale of US F-35 fighter jets. He also aims to further investment in Saudi artificial intelligence, civilian nuclear power and infrastructure.

The leaders are expected to discuss regional stability, including countering Iranian influence. Trump will also try to convince the crown prince to join the Abraham Accords and normalise ties with Israel. But that’s unlikely, given Saudi Arabia’s insistence on the realisation of a Palestinian state.
