Hamas delegation, Kushner in Egypt for Gaza plan talks

A Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya began meeting with the head of Egyptian intelligence chief on Sunday, a source said.

Both sides discussed ways to advance the implementation of a post-war plan for Gaza, an official from the Palestinian group said.

Donald Trump’s envoy and son-in-law Jared Kushner discussed the US leader’s plan for Gaza with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday, hours after Hamas chief al-Hayya met with Cairo’s spymaster.

Kushner and al-Hayya, both in the Mediterranean city of El-Alamein, held separate talks on the implementation of Trump’s post-war plan for Gaza, which has largely been stalled since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was declared last October.

Kushner will also meet with Hamas representatives in the presence of mediators after his meetings in Israel, sources said.

Hamas had said in late July that it was ready to hand over its weapons to a nascent technical committee set to govern Gaza, as part of a 15-point plan announced by Trump’s Board of Peace.

But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the plan, vowing there would be no withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza until the full disarmament of Hamas.

The delegation led by al-Hayya arrived in Egypt on Saturday evening. The delegation began a meeting with Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad in the Egyptian city of El-Alamein, the Hamas official said.

He added that talks would cover “the latest developments in the negotiations and the efforts being made to compel Israel to abide by the agreement, which includes the 15-point roadmap, and to begin its implementation.”

“The delegation will brief Egyptian officials on Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, and Hayya will emphasize the movement’s commitment and readiness to implement the agreement as soon as Israel announces its commitment to it.”

Kushner to meet Hamas delegation on Gaza plan implementation

Kushner is set to meet the Hamas delegation on Sunday for talks on implementing Trump’s Gaza plan and facilitating the transfer of administrative responsibilities to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, sources said.

The talks are expected to address the deployment of an international stabilization force, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid, according to the sources.

The Board of Peace’s high representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, along with representatives from Turkey, Egypt and Qatar, are also expected to attend the meeting.

The aim is to advance implementation of Trump’s plan rather than renegotiate its terms, the sources said, with discussions also focused on ending the cycle of violence in Gaza.
