Exiled opposition leader Machado says has returned to Venezuela

Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado said Sunday she had returned to her home country after nearly a year in exile.

“I am here. With you,” Machado posted in Spanish on X, while her ally presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, reposted the message and said: “Venezuela! I am thrilled to announce to you that our leader, my dear Maria Corina, is on Venezuelan soil.”

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that conditions allowing Machado to safely return to Venezuela were a direct result of US-supported reconciliation talks.
