‘End of humanity’ in north Gaza as Israel empties last hospital

  • The Kamal Adwan Hospital’s director said about 50 people have been killed, including five medical staff, in an Israeli air strike on a building near the hospital in northern Gaza. Israel ordered the evacuation of the hospital, endangering the remaining nearly 75 patients there.
  • Israel attacked a house overnight in Gaza City, killing at least nine people, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.

Palestinian man accused of Herzliya stabbing was collaborating with Israel

What we know so far about the stabbing attack that took place in Herzliya is that a 28-year-old man from the West Bank city of Tulkarem stabbed an 83-year-old woman. He was shot and injured on-site by a security man.

Israeli authorities are currently investigating how he was able to get inside Israel given the tight restrictions put in place against Palestinians.

Israel’s internal security service, Shin Bet, put out a statement saying the man had been working with Israeli forces to thwart attacks.

It also said he had been arrested and spent one year in Israeli jails under administrative detention, which is detention without charges and is widely used against Palestinians. It seems they used this time in detention to have him collaborate with them.

    Gaza death toll rises

Israel has killed 37 Palestinians in Gaza and injured 98 across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry.

The latest killings have brought the death toll since October 7 last year to at least 45,436, the ministry said.

Israel’s war on Gaza also injured at least 108,038 people, it added.

Gaza’s health director says contact lost with Kamal Adwan Hospital

The director of the Gaza Health Ministry has told Al Jazeera that Israeli forces have stormed the northern Gaza hospital and forced out 350 people, including all the patients and staff who were there at that moment.

He said contact with the hospital was lost and the ambulances that went there did not return to deliver any news of what is going on.

The director added the Israeli army burned down part of the hospital yesterday.

‘End of humanity’ in northern Gaza as Kamal Adwan Hospital evacuated: Doctor

American doctor Mimi Syed, an emergency physician currently on her second medical mission inside Gaza, has told Al Jazeera that the Israeli military’s order to evacuate the Kamal Adwan Hospital spells the “end of humanity” in northern Gaza, as no health facility will now be operating in the area.

About 75 patients are estimated to be at the facility. Their conditions and whereabouts are unknown as all communications have been severed since the military issued the forcible evacuation threat earlier today.

Syed said patients require treatment and often electrical appliances that cannot be operated outside the hospital. “I can totally imagine deaths taking place as a result of that,” she said.

The doctor added that any surviving patients would likely arrive at Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital and Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah, where she is operating.

She said the health system in these medical facilities has already collapsed as there is not enough food, water or electricity available. “I can’t imagine another influx of patients coming into a health system that is already broken,” she said.
