Doja Cat humiliates Sydney Sweeney over ‘Great Jeans’ Ad: “My jeans are BLEH”

Doja Cat mocks Sydney Sweeney over controversial “great jeans” campaign online.
You may have seen a lot of talk online about Sydney Sweeney’s new American Eagle ads over the last few days. If you need to catch up, though, here’s a quick note.
The new American Eagle jeans ad campaign stars Sydney Sweeney and has the tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” which is a play on the phrase “great genes.” You can still find a lot of pictures and videos on AE’s social media, but I’ll only talk about the ones that are getting the most negative feedback.
In one clip, the camera gets really close to Sydney’s chest. “My genes determine the make-up of my body,” she says. Then she jokes with the camera that her eyes are “up here.” In another film, Sydney is lying on the ground with her shirt off and her jeans on. The camera follows her body. “Genes are passed down from parent to child and often determine things like eye color, personality, and even hair color,” she says. “My jeans are blue,” she says to the camera.
After getting a lot of negative feedback for various reasons, these two movies seem to have been taken down from AE’s social media accounts. Many people didn’t like how sexualized the ads were, and some pointed out that the clip of her putting on her jeans seems to reference a very controversial 1980 Calvin Klein ad with Brooke Shields, who was 15 years old at the time.
Also, a lot of people don’t like how much attention has been paid to Sydney’s “great genes” as a blonde, blue-eyed, white woman. To give you an idea of what eugenicists mean, words like “good genes” and “great genes” have been used by people who think that selective breeding can improve the genetic quality of the human population.
As you might expect, things have gotten very messy online. On TikTok, some of the funnier comments are about how Sydney’s voice sounds in the video of her lying on the ground. She seems to be making her voice sound like a slurred drawl with a lot of vocal fry for no reason.
Do you know what’s going on with your TikTok? A lot of people are pretending to have Sydney’s written voice. Doja Cat has now joined the trend.
Doja posted a clip of her reading Sydney’s dialogue about how “genes are passed down from parent to offspring,” but with her own southern spin on it. She captioned it: “My jeans are bleh.”
In the comments, one person wrote, “You know it’s bad when even Doja makes fun of it,” while someone else added, “My jeans are damp because I just peed my pants.”
