Children, women killed in Deir el-Balah attack

  • Israeli attacks on Deir el-Balah in central Gaza killed at least 12 people and wounded many more, including children, according to videos and witnesses.
  • Thirteen aid trucks arrived safely in Jabalia and Gaza City, marking the first convoys to travel from the south to the north of the Gaza Strip without incident in four months.

Netanyahu does not want to appear as the person giving concessions to Hamas

Since the news leaked about what Hamas has suggested on Friday afternoon, reports emerged from Israel that there will be a cabinet meeting on Saturday evening.

But on Saturday evening, news came that the meeting will be postponed to Sunday or Monday. At the same time, War Minister Yoav Gallant has called for a meeting with his security leadership.

I consider that meeting an important one because it is a message to Netanyahu that there are other voices within Israel that should be listened to and those are the people in charge of real issues.

We already have a statement from Gantz that the government should show some flexibility or ideas to face this proposal by Hamas. We are also hearing from another politician, Gideon Saar, who wants to be added to the war cabinet, and criticised the government saying there is no clear direction and said the military has no clear target.

He said this war is endless and we don’t know where we are going. That was an internal blow for Netanyahu. He does not want to appear as the person giving concessions to Hamas. He wants the war cabinet to decide, to come up with a proposal, and take it to the wider cabinet.

    Gaza death toll rises

At least 31,645 Palestinians have been killed and 73,676 wounded by Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 7, the Palestinian Health Ministry has announced.

The ministry added that 92 people were killed in the last 24 hours.

Doctors in Rafah struggle to provide care for patients

Volunteer doctors say they’re struggling to provide medical care to people in Rafah, southern Gaza.

The UN says 1.5 million Palestinians have sought shelter in Rafah after Israel’s intense attacks in northern and central Gaza.

Rafah lacks the healthcare facilities to treat this many people and a shortage of medicines and supplies is worsening the suffering.

“It’s impossible for medical facilities to accommodate this number of patients. We’re operating in a camp housing around 1.5 million people. We receive medications to cover a week, but they run out in just one day,” Ahmed Saad, volunteer at medical point in Rafah, said.

Samar Gregea, a displaced Palestinian from Gaza City, said: “We’re facing shortages of medications, especially pediatric medicines. There are a lot of patients in the camp, with all children suffering from malnutrition, and the widespread presence of hepatitis A. Children require foods high in sugars, like dates, which are currently unavailable.”

    Symbols of Palestine

Across the world, demonstrators have rallied in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, donning the emblematic black-and-white Palestinian headdress known as the keffiyeh.

Among them, demonstrators carry large keys, a cartoon portraying a child with his back turned, and even an image of a watermelon 🍉, each representing a different way of supporting the Palestinian cause.

In this infographic series, Al Jazeera showcases eight symbols that represent Palestinian identity and resistance to Israeli occupation.
