Céline Dion insisted on sharing ‘Upsetting’ footage of her struggle with stiff person syndrome in new documentary

Celine Dion’s documentary I Am: Celine Dion, which debuted today, June 25, on Prime Video, features several distressing sequences that depict her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome.

In the agonizing 10-minute video, Celine sheds uncontrollable tears as she struggles to regain control of her body. She is pictured here, wrapped in a blanket, after she has recovered from the seizure, admitting her shame at losing control of her body.

On a massage table, she appears to be convincing and writhing in pain, moaning in agony, as medical workers tend to her.

“The last part of her documentary was in a state of seizure,” said one X user. The audience shared the difficult images with her and provided all the necessary support after seeing them. My eyes welled up with tears as I said, “It truly breaks my heart that I see you in this position.”

Celine adds to the tape, “Every time something like this happens, it makes you feel so embarrassed, and the incredibly brave Celine insists that she won’t stop until she can perform again.”

Then she cries out, “I still see myself dancing and singing,” expressing her determination not to let the illness control her. You know, Plan B and Plan C are always there for me.

“This is me,” she said. So long as I can’t run, I’ll get there on foot. I will crawl if I am unable to walk. “I will not cease,” I say, despite my intention to continue.

The director of the film said it was “very upsetting” to see Céline Dion like that.

Notably, Celine Dion addressed her struggle with “stiff person syndrome,” a rare neurological disorder she had for a number of years, and her determination to finish her creative career in her film. As she revealed to Agence France-Presse before today’s debut, the film also recounts a small portion of her larger narrative.

“When life throws a curveball at you, you can choose to either roll with it or fight it,” Dionne adds.

In addition to thanking her loved ones, medical staff, and fans, Celine shared her heartfelt sentiments of support and affection.

She said that discussing her illness in the documentary was “the greatest gift and the greatest responsibility,” and she expressed her gratitude for the film’s impact on her life, saying that she hopes it will serve as a source of strength for those going through tough times.
