Android allows tracking other devices with permission

Android, an operating system based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open-source software, is primarily designed for touchscreen-based mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. It now allows users to track other devices after gaining permission from their owners.

Find My Device update

Android has recently updated its ‘Find My Device’ app, which helps locate, lock, erase, or play a sound on any lost Android device. The app will now allow users to track other devices after obtaining permission from the device owners.

Users of the app can track and locate their lost or stolen smartphones and other devices on a map. The app is free to download and use on Android devices and via the web.

The previous version of the app allowed users to find their phones and devices only when connected to Wi-Fi. However, the new update enables users to track their phones and devices without needing an internet connection. The app now works similarly to Apple’s ‘Find My Network’ feature.

Additionally, the updated Android app now supports third-party Bluetooth trackers and can locate Android phones and devices, even if they are turned off. Users can also set up sounds on their devices to help find them, as well as remotely lock and erase their data to keep their information safe and private.

Track people, not only devices

What is remarkable about the new update is that users can now track people, not just devices and smartphones, after gaining their approval and permission. This feature is supported by Google Maps, the web service that provides detailed information about geographical regions and locations worldwide.

Users can choose who they share their location with, how many hours their location will be shared, and the details will appear to the other person, including the battery percentage of the device belonging to the user who shared their location.

Since this feature operates through Google Maps, even iPhone and Apple users can track Android shared locations as long as they use Google Maps on their devices.
