Afra Saraçoğlu detained at Istanbul Airport: Video shows her arrival

Turkish actress Afra Saraçoğlu has been detained at Istanbul Airport after returning to Turkey from France as part of an ongoing investigation involving several well-known figures.

Afra Saraçoğlu was detained on Monday, September 21, after arriving in Turkey. She was then handed over to the gendarmerie and taken to Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital for a medical examination, according to Turkish media reports.

The actress had been outside Turkey when authorities issued a detention order connected to the investigation. After news of the operation emerged last week, Saraçoğlu explained that she was abroad for a previously planned business trip.

She also said she would return to Turkey and cooperate fully with the judicial authorities.

“I will return to my country as soon as possible and give my statement in full cooperation with the judicial authorities,” Saraçoğlu said in her statement at the time. She added that she believed the situation would be clarified.

Why Was Afra Saraçoğlu Detained?

The detention is connected to an investigation led by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the latest report from Anadolu Agency carried by TRT Haber, the investigation covers allegations involving drug use and supply, violation of privacy, blackmail and facilitating prostitution. Authorities said they had obtained evidence supporting what they described as reasonable suspicion that some suspects had used narcotic or stimulant substances, facilitated their use or provided locations for such activity.

These are allegations under investigation. Saraçoğlu’s detention does not establish that she committed any of the alleged offenses.

Afra Saraçoğlu is one of several public figures caught up in the wider investigation.

Turkish authorities initially issued detention orders for 18 suspects in one investigation. A second investigation resulted in orders involving another six people, bringing the total to 24 suspects across the two cases, according to Anadolu Agency.

Among the names previously detained were actors Aras Bulut İynemli, Melis Sezen, Nilperi Şahinkaya and Melisa Şenolsun, singer Sefo, former footballer Hasan Şaş, and several other public figures.

The investigation has already resulted in different legal outcomes for different suspects.

According to the latest reports, Sayat Zurnacı and Aytaç Kart were arrested, while Muhammet Kahyaoğlu, Nilperi Şahinkaya and Hasan Şaş were released under judicial-control measures. Several other suspects, including Aras Bulut İynemli, Sefo and Melis Sezen, were released after their procedures.

Other suspects remained subject to extended detention procedures.

What Happens Next for Afra Saraçoğlu?

After her detention at the airport, Saraçoğlu underwent a medical examination before being transferred into the custody process.

According to TRT Haber, she is expected to give her statement to the gendarmerie before being referred to the Forensic Medicine Institute.

At this stage, there has been no court finding establishing Saraçoğlu’s involvement in the allegations under investigation.

Her detention also follows her own earlier statement that she was prepared to return to Turkey and cooperate with authorities.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further information is expected as Saraçoğlu’s statement and forensic procedures are completed.
