Saudi Arabia says Houthis will face consequences for attacks on Kingdom

Saudi Arabia warned Tuesday that Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militia would face the consequences of its repeated attacks on the Kingdom, including strikes targeting airports, the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, and civilian and economic facilities.

The warning came during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh.

The Cabinet said the Houthis would bear the consequences of their attacks targeting Saudi airports, visitors to the Two Holy Mosques, and civilian and economic infrastructure.

It also praised the Saudi armed forces for their role in defending the Kingdom, protecting its resources and deterring threats to its sovereignty and the safety of its citizens and residents.

The statement comes amid an escalation in Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, including a series of strikes targeting civilian airports in Riyadh, Abha and Dammam.

The Cabinet praised military operations conducted by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen to counter Houthi threats to the Yemeni people, international peace and security, global trade and maritime supply chains.

It reiterated that Saudi Arabia would not tolerate threats to its national security or maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a strategic waterway connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

The Cabinet also expressed appreciation to countries and international organizations that had condemned the Houthi attacks.

The latest escalation comes as Yemen’s internationally recognized government presses ahead with Operation Dawn of Yemen, a military campaign aimed at retaking territory held by the Houthis, with support from the Saudi-led coalition.

Separately, the Cabinet welcomed the restoration of crude oil flows through Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, praising the efforts of Saudi personnel who brought the pipeline back into operation.

It said the rapid restoration demonstrated the energy sector’s operational flexibility, emergency response capabilities and technical expertise.

The Cabinet added that these capabilities reinforced the reliability of Saudi oil supplies to global markets and supported the global economy.
