Taiz faces escalating violence as Houthis commit 43 violations, 172,000 displaced

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented 43 crimes and violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians in Yemen’s Taiz governorate over the past 24 hours, as military clashes resumed and a United Nations report described the situation in the governorate as “particularly alarming.”

In a statement, the network said the violations included deliberate killings, indiscriminate shelling of residential neighborhoods, and attacks on homes, private vehicles, healthcare facilities and mosques.

The network said Houthi shelling in rural Taiz killed five civilians, including a young girl, in the Haisaban area of al-Misrakh district and wounded 17 others, including women and children.

It added that the Houthis fired 180 shells toward residential neighborhoods during the same period, spreading fear and panic among residents and damaging several homes.

The areas targeted by Houthi shelling included Bir Basha, al-Manakh, Zaid al-Mushki, al-Jamia and al-Shamasi.

Alarming situation

The reported violations come as residents of Taiz continue to struggle with restrictions on the delivery of essential supplies and sharp increases in the prices of fuel, water, food and medicine.

These conditions have made it increasingly difficult for families to meet their daily needs, while placing children, patients, the elderly and low-income households at greater risk.
