Three killed, 36 injured in attacks on Saudi airports

Three people were killed and 36 others injured in two attacks targeting airports in Riyadh and Abha, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said on Wednesday.
GACA said Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh were targeted in separate attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting aviation authorities and other relevant agencies to activate established emergency procedures.
At Abha airport, two residents – a Moroccan woman and an Algerian woman – were killed, while 28 Saudi citizens and residents were injured, with their conditions ranging from minor to serious.
At King Khalid International Airport, a Sudanese resident was killed and eight others were injured.
Those injured in Riyadh included five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents and one Pakistani resident, with their injuries also ranging from minor to serious.
All those injured in the two attacks were immediately taken to hospitals for medical treatment, GACA said.
The attacks also caused material damage, the authority added, without providing further details on the extent of the damage.
GACA said it was working in coordination with relevant security authorities to assess the damage and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers and airport employees and maintain the security and safety of Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation system.
