$7.52 billion released from Ukraine arms fund

 Funds from the European Peace Facility – used to finance military support for Ukraine – were finally released by the EU after being blocked by Hungary under Orban for years.

$7.52 billion was released from the fund to reimburse members who provided arms and military support for Ukraine – the funds were blocked by Hungary due to Viktor Orban’s stance against providing military aid to Kyiv.

After Orban lost his reelection bid and was replaced by Peter Magyar, the funds were finally released, ending the deadlock which had been in place for years.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said that $5.35 billion of the funds would be used to reimburse member states while the rest would be used to further support Ukraine.

$1.03 billion will be used to fund an EU-led mission that trains Ukrainian forces, while $1.14 billion will finance joint purchases of new military equipment, Kallas said.

“Moscow’s hybrid attacks try to intimidate Europe into scaling back its support for Ukraine. Europe is doing the opposite,” Kallas said on social media.
