Jorja Smith, Chase & Status and Sam Smith to head up Radio 1’s Live Lounge month

Sam Smith, Chase & Status and Jorja Smith are among the artists who have been revealed for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge month.

Indie band Blossoms, singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri and US rappers Anderson .Paak and Cordae will also take to the studio in October.

Each Live Lounge guest traditionally performs an acoustic version of one of their own songs, plus a cover of a track by a different artist.

The sessions will air on Radio 1’s Live Lounge show, which will now be fronted by Charlie Hedges and Jeremiah Asiamah.

The recordings will go out throughout October on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at midday on the pair’s new show.

A performance from Stockport-formed band Blossoms on 5 October will kick off the run.

Rock band Nothing But Thieves, US rising star Stella Lefty, Brit-nominated singer Beabadoobee and London-based artist Odeal are also among the artists on the line-up.

Brighton duo Royal Blood will close out this year’s sessions on 30 October, but a surprise artist, who will perform just before them, is still to be announced.

West Midlands superstar Jorja Smith will be performing following on from the release of her third album, What Are The Odds.

The Brit Award winner’s latest album received largely positive reviews, with Rolling Stone UK describing it as her “best album yet”.

Electronic heavyweights Chase & Status will also take to the studio after they headlined Reading and Leeds Festival last month.

And Oscar-winner Sam Smith will be rolling out their vocals following on from the release of their fifth album, Hazel Eyes, last month.

Hedges previously hosted the Live Lounge with fellow presenters Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom, who have since left the station as part of a major schedule shake-up.

In an Instagram post at the time, Hedges said she was “so excited” to host the show alongside Asiamah and sent her support to her former colleagues, saying she would be “cheering them on in their next chapter”.

Following the Live Lounge announcement, Asiamah said it is a “privilege” to take on the role and host the upcoming line-up of guests.

“Bring it on. Hope you’re ready, because I ain’t, it’s going to be a surprise and a big vibe,” he added.
