Iran warns retaliation to US attack will not be limited

Iran has threatened to instantly strike US bases and aircraft carriers in response to any attack, after US President Donald Trump warned time was running out for Tehran to make a nuclear deal, and the EU blacklisted its Revolutionary Guards as a “terrorist” organisation.
Iran’s military spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia told state television that US aircraft carriers have “serious vulnerabilities” and that numerous US military assets in the Gulf region are “within the range of our medium-range missiles”.
Hakan Fidan on Iran and Turkiye’s role in global security
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warns that attacking Iran would be wrong and says Tehran is ready to return to negotiations.
He urges a step-by-step diplomatic approach and cautions against escalation.
Fidan also discusses Turkiye’s position on the future of regional and global security cooperation and the role it can play as the post-World War II order fractures and trust between states erodes.
Iran threatens US military assets in Gulf
Iran has warned that any US military action would be met with an immediate and decisive response, rejecting the idea that hostilities could be short or contained.
Speaking on state television, Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia said Tehran’s response would not be limited, unlike in June last year when US aircraft and missiles briefly joined Israel’s short air war against Iran.
Akraminia said US aircraft carriers have “serious vulnerabilities” and that multiple US assets in the Gulf region are “within the range of our medium-range missiles”.
“If such a miscalculation is made by the Americans, it will certainly not unfold the way Trump imagines – carrying out a quick operation and then, two hours later, tweeting that the operation is over,” he said.
Recap of recent developments
Iranian authorities have signalled their readiness to defend their country amid US threats of military attack, as regional diplomatic efforts continue in a bid to avoid a new conflict.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said there is still room for Iran to strike a deal with the US, but that his department would be ready to “deliver whatever” Trump “expects” if not.
Iran’s army army announced it had acquired 1,000 new “strategic” drones.
The European Union has designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a “terrorist organisation” over a deadly crackdown on antigovernment protests in the country, while announcing a new round of sanctions on Iranian officials, including the interior minister.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry says the European Union’s decision to impose sanctions on the IRGC and to list it as a “terrorist” organisation is “illegal” and “political”.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will hold high-level talks in Turkiye on Friday, Iranian officials have said.
