How the al-Mawasi ‘safe zone’ has repeatedly been targeted by Israeli forces
The tent camp at al-Mawasi – on the Gaza coast stretching from near Khan Younis to Deir el-Balah – is one of the most overcrowded areas in a landscape devastated by Israel’s war.

The Israeli-described “safe evacuation zone” has sustained repeated deadly attacks by the military since the war began.

This month, there have been near-daily attacks on tents housing displaced Palestinians in the zone. Here are just a few:

Today, one Palestinian was killed by Israeli artillery shelling in the zone.
On Saturday, an Israeli helicopter attack on tents killed at least five people. A strike later that day killed one Palestinian and wounded two.
On Wednesday, at least 15 people, most of them women and children, were killed in an Israeli strike.
On Tuesday, Israel bombed the camp, killing at least two people and wounding several others.
On April 9, three Palestinians – a girl, a woman and a man – were killed in an Israeli air attack.
On April 6, at least five Palestinians, including a child, were killed in an overnight Israeli attack.
On April 3, Israeli shelling of a tent killed four Palestinians.
