Lil Yachty calls BLM a scam during cooking show

Popular American rapper Lil Yachty recently went viral on social media after calling the BLM (Black Lives Matter) human rights organization a scam during an episode of Quenlin Blackwell’s cooking show on YouTube.

Quenlin Blackwell asked the rapper, “How much have you spent on charitable causes this year… BLM?” Lil Yachty replied alleging that the organization misused donated funds to purchase luxurious properties, “BLM is a scam… BLM was literally a scam. They had bought mansions.”

After his controversial comments, Blackwell looked at the camera urging her cameramen to clip Lil Yachty’s words so that they could send it to the news. The video was posted on YouTube on March 9, 2025, and by the time of reporting has garnered more than three million views.

Clips of the incident flooded several social media platforms, and the renowned American rapper became a trending topic on Musk’s X (formerly known as Twitter). Several social media users agreed with Yachty’s take saying it’s true while referencing articles from the past.

A user wrote on Musk’s X, “Lil Yachty is right. BLM took millions in donations and spent it on luxury mansions instead of the communities they claimed to help. One of the biggest scams of the decade, and the receipts are everywhere.”

According to the US Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Ohio, a BLM activist was sentenced to 42 months in prison for wire fraud and money laundering by defrauding donors of $450,000 that they donated to his nonprofit “Black Lives Matter of Greater Atlanta.”

In 2022, BLM leaders condemned allegations of mismanaged funds summing up to millions of dollars after reports from New York Magazine indicated that the human rights organization purchased a $6 million Southern California home with donated money.

The report claimed that the group secretly purchased the 6,500-square-foot house in October 2020 as its headquarters where its members would create social justice content.
