US president tells Canada’s Trudeau ‘not good enough’

  • United States President Donald Trump has confirmed he spoke by phone with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the 25-percent tariffs that the US imposed on both Canada and Mexico, hinting the call was less than friendly.
  • President Claudia Sheinbaum says Mexico’s government may reach out to Canada and other countries to counteract the US tariffs.“Some here say it’s yet another Trump tactic to scare Ukraine, the Ukrainian leadership, to make them sit down at the negotiating table and make them talk to the Russians,” Shapovalova said.

“There are also voices here who say that the United States understands right now that Russia will win anyway, sooner or later, because it’s stronger, it’s got more resources, and to prolong this conflict means more death and more destruction.”

    What Trump said about Rubio

While addressing his push to acquire the Panama Canal last night, Trump said — apparently in jest — that if the efforts fail, his top diplomat would be to blame.

The US president went on to highlight that Rubio was confirmed unanimously in the Senate, including by all Democrats.

“And I’m either very, very happy about that or I’m very concerned about it,” Trump said of the confirmation vote.

Was it praise? Was it harmless banter? Was it a public warning? It is difficult to decipher Trump’s comments and his motives.

What is certain is that Rubio — once a vocal advocate of foreign aid programmes and assistance to Ukraine — seems like an odd fit in an administration that is pulling the US out of the world stage.

Trump says he spoke to Canada’s Trudeau

The US president says he held a “‘somewhat’ friendly” phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but he did not announce a resolution to the trade crisis between the two countries.

Trump, once again, referred to Trudeau as “governor” – a swipe meant to treat Canada as a US state.

The US president suggested that he imposed 25 percent tariffs on Canada because of fentanyl entering from the country’s northern border.

But US government data shows that the amount of fentanyl coming from Canada is insignificant, less than 1 percent of the total amount coming from outside the country.

“The call ended in a ‘somewhat’ friendly manner! He was unable to tell me when the Canadian Election is taking place, which made me curious, like, what’s going on here? I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power. Good luck Justin!” Trump wrote in a social media post.

The Canadian government hold an election by October 20. Trudeau’s Liberal Party will choose a new leader on Sunday.

Trudeau has stepped down from the leadership of his party and will be replaced as prime minister by the new leader.
