SoftBank and OpenAI announce AI joint venture in Japan
SoftBank, the Japanese multinational investment holding company, and OpenAI, the American artificial intelligence (AI) research organization, have announced a new AI joint venture in Japan.

Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, attended an event in Tokyo to launch a new artificial intelligence (AI) joint venture. The venture aims to provide artificial intelligence (AI) services to corporate customers.
Additionally, SoftBank announced that it will use OpenAI technology across its companies for an annual cost of $3 million.
Son and Altman said the new joint venture will be owned by OpenAI and another company under SoftBank.
Stargate
It is worth noting that US president Donald Trump announced Stargate new artificial intelligence (AI) joint venture valued at approximately $500 billion last month. Stargate is supported by leading global tech companies, including OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle.
The three companies will develop, support, and establish a robust AI infrastructure in the US. According to sources, the three companies will invest approximately $100 billion in the first phase, with plans to bring the total investment in ‘Stargate’ to nearly $500 billion over the next few years.
“Stargate will build the physical and virtual infrastructure to power the next generation of AI, including data centers around the country,” Trump stated.
Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO, said: “I think this will be the most important project of this era.”
