Kate Middleton stuns in $20 Zara plaid dress during Tŷ Hafan hospice visit, honoring Princess Diana

Kate Middleton rewears her $20 Zara plaid dress.

It’s Kate Middleton’s turn. With her most recent engagement at Tŷ Hafan, a children’s hospice in Wales, on January 30, the Princess of Wales is continuing her visits at medical institutions after making her first appearance of the year at the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she got chemotherapy.

Middleton wore a black and white houndstooth plaid prairie dress for the event. The dress had a tea-length skirt, a pussy-bow embellishment at the neck, and slightly puffy sleeves that gathered at the shoulders and wrists.

The Princess of Wales wore the dress, which was initially priced at $112 by Zara before going on sale for $20, according to the Daily Mail, with an ivory coat that was left open to see the dress’s design and a big, pointed black heel.

Middleton has worn the dress four times now. She first wore it in 2020 while visiting Bradford, and then again in 2021 and 2023 when she visited UCL and the Aberfan Memorial Garden, respectively.

The dress subtly honors Princess Diana, who loved plaid and prairie dresses and frequently wore them together for formal occasions or more laid-back get-togethers.

According to People, “the project to build the hospice was one of the last patronages of the late Princess Diana, and it was completed a few years after her 1997 death,” so the visit itself also had a lovely connection to Diana.

Middleton, who is currently a hospice patron, had followed Diana’s example. In a statement, Tŷ Hafan CEO Irfon Rees said that the organization is “deeply honored” to have Kate as a patron. “As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will serve as an inspiration to our devoted staff and volunteers, children with life-shortening conditions and their families, and everyone who so kindly supports us,” the statement said.

“No parent ever imagines that their child’s life will be short,” Rees went on. Unfortunately, thousands of families in Wales have to deal with this reality. While we cannot prevent this from occurring, we can work together to ensure that no parent has to face their child’s brief life alone.
