Tencent’s upcoming survival game Light of Motiram has recently sparked debate across social media after its uncanny resemblance to Sony’s exclusive game by Guerrilla Games Horizon Zero Dawn.
Comments about their resemblance swarmed social media platforms after Tencent revealed Light of Motiram’s poster which was heavily inspired by Horizon Zero Dawn, from its color palette and environments to the character designs and theme.
One user wrote, “Horizon Zero Originality. Horizon Forbidden Creativity.”
“Even the colors and the poster image are the same.”
Will Sony sue Tencent over Horizon Zero Dawn clone?
In reference to the gameplay footage released, the graphics also look similar with the only thing differentiating the game from Horizon Zero Dawn, being the survival elements, like cutting down trees, building bases, and more.
The addition of weapon variety is also different, according to the gameplay as the character is seen holding swords, shields, and bows.
With some users pointing out things about the uncanny resemblance, many others speculated Sony’s stance on the matter in question. This raised the question of whether Sony would sue Tencent, similar to how Nintnentdo sued Palworld developer Pocket Pair.
By the time of writing this article, the Japanese tech giant still hasn’t responded as the announcement of Light of Motiram was only made yesterday on Nov. 27, 2024.
