Hande Erçel responds to the Semih Çelik murder incident amid criticism
Similar to fellow actor Kerem Bürsin, Hande Erçel went viral across social media after responding to the horrifying murder of two Turkish women at the hands of a butcher named Semih Çelik amid facing criticism on the internet for not speaking up about the matter sooner.
On Oct. 4, 2024, Semih Çelik killed two women in 30 minutes and decapitated one of them, then committed suicide on Fatih’s historic wall in Istanbul city.
Istanbul police confirmed that the suspect took his own life by jumping off the city walls, but before that, killed both 19; Ayşenur Halil in Eyüpsultan at around 15.30 and İkbal Uzuner in Fatih at around 16.00.

During an interview circulating on social media by Turkish news outlets, Hande Erçel said that as long as there are murderers and psychopaths on the streets who are not getting punished or put in jail, she can’t feel safe.
She then snapped back at whoever criticized her for not responding about the issue at hand and added, “What will happen if we react and speak out? I too am very afraid when walking on the street!”
On a similar note, Kerem Bürsin took to his Instagram account to raise awareness about the female crimes that happened in Turkey in the first 6 months of 2024.
