Kerem Bürsin reacts to Turkish butcher Semih Çelik murdering story
Kerem Bürsin, who is known for his firm stance in support of women’s rights, reacted to the shocking crime that shook Turks in the past few days, the story of butcher Semih Çelik.
Turkish butcher Semih Çelik made on Oct. 4 a horrible crime and killed two women in 30 minutes. He also cut the head of one of them then he committed suicide on Fatih’s historic wall in Istanbul city.
Istanbul police confirmed that the suspect, Semih Çelik, committed suicide by jumping off the city walls, but before that, he killed two women, both 19; Ayşenur Halil in Eyüpsultan at around 15.30 and İkbal Uzuner in Fatih at around 16.00.
A background probe revealed Çelik had serious psychiatric disorders and had been hospitalized five times at various mental health facilities, including Bakırköy Mazhar Osman, Eyüp, and Cerrahpaşa hospitals.

The crime shocked the Turkish community who took to social media to call for more women’s rights and strong laws to curb murderers and protect females.
Kerem Bürsin took to his Instagram account, where he is followed by 11.3 million people, raising his voice against female crimes that happened in Turkey in the first 6 months of 2024.
According to the story Kerem shared, at least 117 suspicious female deaths were reported in addition to 207 femicides.
In the post, Bürsin highlighted not only Semih Çelik story but also mentioned the stories of a baby who was raped and died from bleeding, and another university student who has been missing for the past 7 days and is still not found till the moment.
The sentence translated from Turkish to “Women have no life security in this country” was filling the post as well to highlight increasing femicides and lack of women’s rights in Ankara.
