Putin signs decree allowing use of US property in Russia as compensation
Putin has signed a decree allowing the use of US property in Russia as compensation for damages caused by the seizure of Russian property in the United States.
The decree containing the corresponding provision was published on the government portal, which instructed the country’s government to establish a special procedure for compensating the damage caused to Russia and its central bank by the US government or judicial decisions.
“The government of the Russian Federation, within a four-month period, ensures the introduction of changes to the legislation of the Russian Federation aimed at implementing this decree,” the document said.
Volunteers boost Ukrainian emergency services in Kharkiv
For months, Russian forces have been bombarding Ukraine’s second-largest city Kharkiv using guided bombs, drones and missiles.
It’s put pressure on emergency services and volunteers are trying to bridge the gap.
Ukraine’s army chief reports fiercest fighting in east
The most intensive battles in Ukraine are now taking place in the east, where Russian forces are pressing on the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove fronts in the Donetsk region and Kupiansk in the east of the Kharkiv region, Ukraine’s top commander has said.
Oleksandr Syrskii said on Facebook that Moscow’s troops were also locked in street fighting in the town of Vovchansk and on the defensive near Lyptsi, two key battlegrounds in Kharkiv region’s north where Russia has opened a new front this month.
EU to feel ‘full measure’ of retaliation over plan to use frozen assets to help Ukraine: Russia
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that the EU will feel the “full measure” of Russian retaliation over its plan to use income from frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine.
EU countries have formally adopted a plan to use windfall profits from Russian central bank assets frozen in the EU for Ukraine’s defence, the Belgian government said on Tuesday.
Russia says such action is illegal and undermines the foundations of the global financial system.
Drone wreckage kills woman in Russia’s Belgorod region: Report
A woman has been killed after an aircraft-type drone was downed over the village of Krasny Vostok in the Yakovlevsky district of the Belgorod region, located near the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
The drone fell on a residential building causing an explosion, Russia’s Kommersant news agency reported.
The wreckage of the downed drone also damaged several households located next to the damaged building. Operational and emergency services are on site, according to Kommersant.
The Belgorod region is subject to daily shelling and drone attacks from Ukraine, it said.
Russia threatens to retaliate against British targets if UK weapons hit its territory
