Borderlands movie: First images, cast, poster, and trailer teaser released
Fans of the popular video game series Borderlands are in for a treat as the first images, poster, and trailer teaser for the upcoming movie adaptation have been released.
The movie, directed by Eli Roth and starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black, is set to hit theaters on August 9, 2024.
The movie follows Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, who returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramírez), the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. She teams up with a ragtag group of misfits, including Roland (Hart), a former soldier; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a wild child demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s protector; Tannis (Curtis), a scientist; and Claptrap (Black), a sarcastic robot. Together, they must face alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power.
The first images show the cast in their costumes, posing in front of a desert backdrop. The poster features the logo of the movie, with the tagline “Welcome to Pandora, kiddos”. The trailer teaser, which premiered at the IGN Fan Fest 2024, gives a glimpse of the action-packed and humorous tone of the movie, as well as the stunning visual effects.
The movie is based on the video games created by Gearbox Software and published by 2K, which have sold over 66 million copies worldwide. The games are known for their distinctive art style, looter-shooter gameplay, and irreverent humor. The movie promises to capture the essence of the games, while also offering a fresh and original story for new and old fans alike.
Borderlands is produced by Lionsgate, in association with Media Capital Technologies, Arad / Picturestart, Gearbox Studios, and 2K. The movie will be released in the U.S. and the U.K. on August 9, 2024.
The full trailer will debut online on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
