“Naked” model in fashion show in Iraq (Video)
The recent fashion show at “Shanshal” mall, part of the “welcome to Basra” festival in Iraq, has ignited a debate on social media, leading to widespread controversy and calls for the closure of the venue.
The focal point of the dispute centers around a video from the event, which some Iraqis criticized for featuring what they perceived as a “naked girl” during the fashion show.
In response to public outcry, the governor of Basra took decisive action, directing security forces to hold accountable and shut down venues that were deemed to violate “decency and public morals, and behave unethically.”
Yaser Al-Ma’raj, the spokesperson for the Iraqi Basra Workers’ Union, asserting that the organization of the fashion show at the “Shanshel” mall was both “legal and ethical.”
The fashion show, which drew attention and criticism, particularly circulated videos suggesting that a model was showcasing nearly nude attire. However, event officials denied these claims, clarifying that the model was wearing a flesh-colored outfit, causing a visual illusion.
Amid mounting pressure to ban the show, the governor of Basra took decisive action, ordering the closure of the “Shanshel” mall and initiating legal proceedings against all implicated parties, including the Workers’ Union.
