Where is Wendy Williams? TV star returns after talk show exit in new documentary
Wendy Williams, the former host of the popular daytime talk show “The Wendy Williams Show”, is back in the spotlight with a new documentary that reveals the challenges she faced after leaving her show in 2021 due to health issues and personal turmoil.
The documentary, titled “Where is Wendy Williams?”, is a two-part series that will air on Lifetime on February 24 and 25. It was produced by Williams herself and filmed over the course of two years, giving viewers an unprecedented access to her private life and struggles.
The trailer for the documentary, which was released on February 2, shows Williams in a vulnerable state, dealing with memory loss, erratic behavior, financial guardianship, and family drama. She also expresses her desire to return to television and reclaim her career and legacy.
“I have no money, and I’m gonna tell you something. If it happens to me, it could happen to you,” Williams says in the trailer.
Williams rose to fame as a radio personality and then as the host of “The Wendy Williams Show” from 2008 to 2021. She was known for her candid and controversial opinions on celebrities and pop culture, as well as her signature catchphrase “How you doin’?”.
The show was highly successful and garnered Williams a loyal fan base, but it also came with a lot of pressure and scrutiny. Williams faced several health problems, including Graves’ disease, lymphedema, and substance abuse. She also went through a messy divorce from her husband and former manager Kevin Hunter, who allegedly cheated on her and fathered a child with another woman.
Williams stepped down from hosting in 2021 amid medical complications and various guest hosts filled in. The show was later canceled and aired its final episode in June 2022.
In the trailer for her documentary, Williams’ son Kevin Hunter Jr. says, “My mom has done a great job making it seem like everything is okay always. But in reality, there’s something wrong going on.”
Williams’ sister and other close friends also express their concern for her well-being and question the people around her who are supposed to have her best interest at heart.
“Where is Wendy Williams?” is the latest project from Williams, who previously released a biopic and a documentary in 2021, titled “Wendy Williams: The Movie” and “Wendy Williams: What a Mess”, respectively.
The new documentary promises to be a raw, honest, and unfiltered look at Williams’ life after her talk show exit and the challenges she faces to rebuild herself and her career.
“Where is Wendy Williams?” will premiere on Lifetime on February 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
