21 Savage is living the ‘American Dream’: Stream it now
The rapper 21 Savage has released his third solo studio album, American Dream, which also serves as the soundtrack for his upcoming biopic film of the same name.
The album features a star-studded lineup of collaborators, such as Travis Scott, Doja Cat, Burna Boy, and more.
American Dream is 21 Savage’s first solo project since I Am > I Was, which came out in 2018 and earned him his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and a Grammy award for best rap song. Since then, he has also topped the charts with his collaborative albums Savage Mode II with Metro Boomin in 2020 and Her Loss with Drake in 2022.
The album reflects on 21 Savage’s journey from his birth in the UK to his upbringing in Atlanta, where he faced poverty, crime, and immigration issues. He was arrested by ICE in 2019 for having an expired visa, which sparked a public outcry and a legal battle. He was later cleared to travel overseas and performed his first show in London in 2023.
21 Savage announced the album earlier this week, along with a trailer for his film American Dream: The 21 Savage Story, which is directed by Donald Glover and stars 21 Savage himself, along with Natasha Lyonne, Victoria Pedretti, and Caleb McLaughlin. The film is set to premiere in theaters on July 4, 2024.
To promote the album, 21 Savage shared baby pictures of his featured artists on his Instagram, creating a buzz among his fans. The album consists of 15 tracks, including the lead single “American Dream”, which samples Bruce Springsteen’s classic song “Born in the U.S.A.”
American Dream is a testament to 21 Savage’s resilience, ambition, and success in the rap industry, as well as his social activism and philanthropy. He founded the Leading by Example Foundation in 2018, which provides financial literacy education, scholarships, bank accounts, and job placement to underserved youth. In 2022, he was honored by the state of Georgia with his own day, December 21.
