Zac Efron Heads to Adelaide to Film the Upcoming Movie Gold

Zac Efron certainly didn’t waste any time flying to Adelaide ahead of filming on his upcoming movie, Gold.

The 33-year-old actor was spotted at Gold Coast Airport on Friday, the same day it was announced he’d be filming the Stan original film in South Australia.

The Greatest Showman star was reportedly picked up from his home in Byron Bay by a limousine, before being driven to the airport for a flight.

He was accompanied by a male friend, but there was no sign of his girlfriend, Byron Bay waitress Vanessa Valladares.

Both Zac and his friend wore black face masks as they lugged their baggage into the airport terminal.

The Hollywood star only pulled on his mask after emerging from the limo, showing off a bushy black beard.

He was dressed comfortably in a pair of navy blue shorts, which he paired with a long-sleeve dark grey T-shirt.

Zac rounded out his casual ensemble with a pair of light grey and fluorescent orange sneakers, and carried a heavy-looking backpack on his shoulders.

He kept a low profile under a black trucker cap, and wore sunglasses as he pulled his luggage out of the car.

Zac seemed prepared for an extended stay in Adelaide, juggling a series of bags as his friend trailed behind him with his own suitcases.

On Friday, Stan announced Zac was attached to the film, which will also star Australian actors Anthony Hayes and Susie Porter.

According to a report by Inside Film on Friday, Zac has taken over from Sam Worthington, who was originally slated to star in the movie.

In addition to starring, Anthony, 43, co-wrote the film and will also direct, and told Inside Film he was thrilled to have Zac sign on.

‘To have Zac Efron as my main man on this film is an absolute gift, and to see what he is creating already is like nothing we’ve seen from him before,’ he said.

‘I can’t wait to deliver this bold, visceral and cinematic film to audiences all around the world.’

The movie will be filmed in South Australia, and is scheduled to screen in cinemas before streaming on Stan sometime next year.

Gold tells the story of two drifters who stumble across the biggest gold nugget ever found while exploring the outback.

One man leaves to secure the necessary equipment needed to extract it, while the other man stays behind to keep watch, leading to a terrifying experience as he battles wolves, intruders and the harsh climate.

Zac has been residing in Byron Bay since March amid the coronavirus pandemic, and is even rumoured to be looking at buying a property in the area.

According to a report by TMZ in August, he’s considering a permanent move to Australia after growing tired of life in Los Angeles.

‘Our sources say Zac is burnt out living in and around Hollywood – he’s never been one for the limelight, or for being the centre of attention,’ they reported.
