I am back, as promised, with an update on my healthy eating and weight loss journey by following the program in Joel Marion’s book “Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight.”
My original goal was to lose at least 10 pounds, increase my energy and get better about eating healthy on a regular basis. You can read about all of my goals in my first post about the diet and lifestyle plan. While I haven’t lost all 10 pounds, I am very close and excited to hit my goal in the next week or two!
My first aha and reveal: Everything I hated about dieting & losing weight is a thing of the past! I’ve been searching for a diet that truly can be a lifestyle, so I don’t fall into bad eating habits when the diet is over. I have tried so many diets that were meant to be followed for anywhere from three days to a month, but none of them included a Lifestyle phase. Joel’s approach includes a healthy long-term lifestyle that follows the Always Eat After 7 pm principles.
One of the hardest parts of most diets I’ve tried or read about is that they are restrictive, limited and not sustainable long-term. Joel shares in the book: “Fact is, most diets are extremely narrow with regard to food choices and variety, and many even limit entire macronutrients altogether over the course of the entire program (think low-carb and low-fat diets). Three months with no carbs? No thanks. Such practices not only are entirely unnecessary but make for a miserable, unsustainable experience.”
When I began following the “Always Eat After 7pm” diet program a few weeks ago, I was also excited to try a diet that would give me more energy. I also have to admit that fact this diet allows for carbs was also very exciting. We’ve traditionally been taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal.
I am happy to share that using the principles in Always Eat After 7PM, I truly feel increased energy in my day to day life.
Since I started the diet, I’ve also been super motivated to start my day with a long morning walk. I’ve even got my husband on board!
While one of the huge perks of this diet are the delicious sweet treats, I am really more of a savory person. I love cheesy, salty, carby foods. So you may not be surprised that my favorite recipe so far is the cheesy ground beef skillet.
A few other favorites have been; Turkey And Bacon Goulash, Honey Garlic Pork Loin, and One-Pan Garlic Roasted Salmon and Broccoli. The recipes were easy to make, filling, packed with nutrients, and my husband and son also loved them!
A few of the things I really love about the book are the easy-to-follow meal planning, provided food lists, and recipe ideas. It really lays the foundation to be successful as I move into the lifestyle phase.
