A 15-year-old Indian girl fell to death from her third-floor apartment in Sharjah in the early hours of Sunday.
Her family had last seen her watching television as they went to sleep. Her parents and twin sister were still sleeping when the police rang their doorbell to inform them about the tragedy.
Confirming the incident to Khaleej Times, the police said her body was found on a pavement next to the building in Al Taawun. A passer-by saw the body and informed the police.
“Initial investigations and interrogation of the family do not point to suicide as the cause of death. It could have been an accident. The case has been referred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution for further investigation,” said an officer from the Buhairah Police Station.
Paramedics and the police rushed her to Al Qasimia Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Later, the body was transferred to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy.
E.P. Johnson, president of the Sharjah Indian Association, has offered his “sincere condolences” to the family. “I have spoken to the child’s father and we are willing to extend all the support the family needs to overcome this horrific tragedy. The family wants to repatriate the girl’s mortal remains to India,” he said.
