Pro-Iran militias fire shells at US base in eastern Syria’s Al-Omar oil field

American forces were attacked in Syria during a rocket attack, the US military said Monday, less than 24 hours after President Joe Biden ordered air strikes on Iran-backed militias along the Syrian-Iraqi border.

“Initial report: At approx. 7:44 PM local time, US Forces in Syria were attacked by multiple rockets,” Spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve Col. Wayne Marotto said in a tweet.

No injuries were reported, Marotto said, adding that updates would be provided as they became available.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Iran-backed militias launched a barrage of rockets at the US base in Syria’s Al-Mayadeen.

US troops, in partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), continue to work together to combat Daesh (ISIS). The US also has a base in Syria’s oil field.

Meanwhile, Syria’s state-run news agency (SANA) reported that 50 US trucks filled with “logistical support” had crossed into Syria from Iraq.
SANA also reported that the US base in Al-Omar had come under attack.
