Pakistan Bans Live-streaming Bigo, Warns Tik Tok For Obscene Content

Pakistan banned popular live streaming app Bigo and issued a final warning to Chinese app TikTok over obscene and immoral content on the platforms.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said the move comes after several complaints were received over immoral, obscene and vulgar content being spread through Bigo and TikTok, reported Dawn.
“PTA had issued necessary notices to the aforementioned social media companies under law to moderate the socialisation and content within legal and moral limits, in accordance with the laws of the country,” PTA said in a statement.
Last week, in a petition filed in Lahore high court, TikTok app was termed as a source of “great mischief of modern times for spreading pornography for the sake of fame and ratings on social media”.
While earlier this month, PTA temporarily suspended online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) after numerous complaints were received terming the game as addictive, a waste of time and with a potential of negative impacts on a child’s physical and psychological health.
