Ms Mariam Mahdavi will become the IOC Legal Affairs Director on 16 March 2020.
Ms Mahdavi will join the IOC from AGICOA, a Geneva-based not-for-profit international association, where she is currently serving as Head of Legal. With an international and multicultural background, Mariam Mahdavi has 13 years of experience as a senior commercial in-house lawyer in the sports and entertainment industry, including marketing, sponsorship, licensing, media and IP rights.
She studied law in France, the UK and in the USA and is bilingual in French and English. From 1997 to 2005, she worked for Meridian Management (now known as IOC TMS) as Head of Commercial Legal, and knows the Olympic Movement from this role.
Ms Mahdavi takes over the role as Legal Affairs Director from the IOC’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Lana Haddad, who held the position ad interim. Ms Mahdavi will report to Ms Haddad. “I wish a warm welcome to Mariam Mahdavi, who now returns to the Olympic Movement after having worked for Meridian Management before. She has a wealth of experience in the sports and entertainment industry from which the IOC can greatly benefit,” said IOC Director General Christophe De Kepper.
