Lebanon Expects Ramadan 2020 to Begin on April 24

The holy month of Ramadan is expected to begin on April 24, the office of the late Shiite Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah announced Monday.

“We ask God Almighty to make it a month of goodness, blessings and mercy for the whole nation,” the statement from Fadlallah’s office said.

The date was determined based on “astronomical calculations.”

Ramadan, which is based on the Islamic lunar calendar, starts roughly 10 days earlier every year, Fadlallah’s office relies on astronomical calculations to determine the start and the end of the month, whereas Dar al-Fatwa and the Higher Shiite Council rely on new moon sighting.
