John Travolta Remembers Late Wife Kelly Preston on Her Birthday

Three months after her passing, John Travolta wished his late wife a happy birthday on Tuesday – which would have been her 58th birthday.

The movie star, 66, shared a photo featuring his mom Helen Cecilia Burke and dad Salvatore Travolta’s wedding day side-by-side with an image of his wedding to Kelly

John and Kelly met on the 1989 film The Experts and began dating; he proposed on New Year’s Eve 1991 at the Palace Hotel in Gstaad, Switzerland.

The Grease star and Kelly married on September 5, 1991; at the time she was two months pregnant with their first child, Jett. They married for a second time in the US on September 12 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Jett, who was born in April 1992, died at age 16 in January 2009.

John and Kelly, who starred in Jerry Maguire, Twins and For Love of the Game, are also parents to daughter Ella, 20, and son Benjamin, nine.

In the post John shared on Tuesday, he wrote: ‘Happy Birthday hon! I found this photo of my mom and dad’s wedding. It was nice to see ours alongside theirs. All my love, John.’

Kelly’s battle with cancer was not made public until after her death via John.

On July 12, 2020, John took to his Instagram to announce Kelly’s passing: ‘It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer.’

He continued: ‘She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many. My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side.’

‘Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal. All my love, JT.’

Kelly’s last Instagram post was in tribute to John as she wished him Happy Father’s Day.

The late star posted a snap of her with John and their kids Ella and Ben, with a second black and white image of John and their late son Jett.

Kelly wrote: ‘Happy Father’s Day to the best one I know, we love you.’
