Saudi GEA, Qiddiya initiate scholarship program for entertainment disciplines

Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA) has initiated an international scholarship program in partnership with Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC) that aims to train and educate students at the bachelor and master levels in entertainment disciplines.

Announced in a press release, GEA said the program aims to enhance employability and skills that “meet the labor market trends of the entertainment sector while equipping sponsored students with the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare them to work in this emerging sector.”

The first batch of students will receive on-the-job training at a Six Flags Park in the United States, and will be offered job opportunities at Qiddiya upon successfully completing the program.

According to the press release, over 25,000 jobs are expected to be available by 2030, which will “enable Qiddiya to achieve its goal of offering a significant portion of future employment opportunities to Saudi nationals.”

Qiddiya is Saudi Arabia’s entertainment megaproject that will be built 40km from downtown Riyadh, with a total area of 334 sq km.

“This cooperative effort between GEA and Qiddiya reiterates GEA commitment towards developing the entertainment sector and empowering it through local talent,” said Amr Banja, the CEO of General Entertainment Authority.

For his part, Michael Reininger, CEO of QIC, said: “Our partnership with GEA is an example of QIC’s concerted efforts to build and foster a new breed of skilled professionals that will service newly-created sectors in the Kingdom and cultivate the human resources that will be instrumental in developing them to their full potential.”

“We are proud of this partnership, and we look forward to welcoming the sponsored students back, upon completion of their degrees, to work at Qiddiya and apply their learning and experiences to real life scenarios and begin their journey of successful careers in this rapidly growing sector,” he added.

Those eligible to apply for the scholarship must be Saudi, committed to entertainment and/or event management, and should be 18-21 years of age.

Registration must be done through the online portal at http://qiddiya-academy.com/ prior to the application deadline on July 12.
