Lebanese IT expert Nizar Zakka, who had been detained in Iran since 2015, landed in Beirut on Tuesday after the government secured his release.
Following his arrival to Beirut, Zakka said that he is not an agent and that he was arrested in Iran under false pretenses, in a joint press conference with the Lebanese Chief of General Security Abbas Ibrahim.
“I went to a country with an official invitation and was abducted,” he said.
Zakka, an information technology specialist who also has US residency, had been detained on charges of anti-state activity. He flew out of Tehran with Lebanon’s security chief Abbas Ibrahim on Tuesday.
