A senior ISIS leader who was involved in the murder of former US Army Ranger Peter Kassig, was killed in a drone strike in Syria on Sunday, Fox News reported citing the US-led coalition.
Abu Al Umarayn is believed to have been involved in the beheading of Kassig, a US aid worker who was abducted by ISIS in Oct. 2013 as he was on his way to Deir Ezzour in eastern Syria to deliver food and medical supplies to refugees.
Coalition spokesperson Col. Sean Ryan said in a statement that Umarayn, along with “several other ISIS members,” were killed in precision drone strikes in Syria’s Badiyah Desert.
“Al Umarayn had given indications of posing an imminent threat to Coalition Forces and he was involved in the killing of American Citizen and former U.S. Army Ranger, Peter Kassig,” officials said.
“He has been linked to and directly involved with executing several other prisoners as a senior ISIS member.”
