In the fourth month of 2022, the world witnessed a number of unexpected environmental developments and disasters, including heavy rains and floods in South Africa and the Philippines, heavy snowfall in Argentina and Chile, deadly cyclones in Madagascar and Mozambique and wildfires in Greece.

April 4:

The death toll in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro state from heavy rains that triggered flash floods and landslides rises to 15.

April 6:

At least 11 people are killed and 17 others are missing after a landslide caused by heavy rain hit a mining area in Abriaqui municipality of Antioquia, Colombia.

April 8:

Four people are killed due to a heavy sandstorm in Iraq.

Powerful windstorm named Storm Diego expected to hit France, bring heavy rain and snow.

April 11:

A wildfire breaks out in northern Greece, burning several hectares of forest land.

April 12:

At least 42 people die in floods and landslides caused by a tropical depression, locally known as Agaton, in the Philippines.

As many as 45 people are killed after heavy rains caused flooding in South Africa’s eastern coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal.

April 13:

The death toll in South Africa from floods caused by heavy rains exceeds 250.

April 14:

The death toll in South Africa from devastating floods caused by heavy rains reaches 306 as roads were washed away and homes collapsed.

April 16:

The death toll jumps to 395 from floods in South Africa’s eastern coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal.

April 18:

April 20:

The death toll from Tropical Storm Megi in the Philippines rises to 178.

April 21:
